In 2012, Zhejiang Science and Technology Department officially approved the establishment and construction of the “Key Laboratory of New Materials and Applied Technology Research in Zhejiang Province”, which was led by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Zhejiang University.
The key laboratory for battery new materials and applied technology research in Zhejiang Province takes the research of new materials and application technologies of batteries, and conducts research work on the preparation, structure and performance of materials, as well as industrial production technology and application technology. The laboratory tries its best to achieve major breakthroughs in basic theory, preparation and engineering application technology. Furthermore, the laboratory hopes to develop a series of new materials and battery products for energy storage to promote the efficient use of energy and environmental improvement. The laboratory has the following four main research directions:
(1) hydrogen storage materials and nickel-hydrogen batteries;
(2) lithium-ion batteries and electrode materials;
(3) thermoelectric conversion materials and temperature difference batteries;
(4) photoelectrochemical cell materials and Device.
The key laboratories will adhere to the principle of “joint, open, and sharing”, and build a research and development innovation, personnel training, results transformation, physical and chemical testing service system, and give full play to its technology research and development, innovation and service in new battery materials and applications in Zhejiang Province and eventually actively lead the efficient use of new energy sources in Zhejiang Province and the steady development of the battery new materials industry.
The laboratory site is provided by the supporting unit Zhejiang University. The laboratory location is located in Yuquan Campus of Zhejiang University, with a saleable area of 2,244 square meters and total equipment assets of 23.54 million yuan. There are 38 people in the laboratory, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 21 professors, associate professors and 11 other deputy senior staff. Among them, there are 2 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 3 professors from Zhejiang University, 3 from the Ministry of Education, 3 from the Ministry of Education, 3 from the first level of the Provincial 151 Talent Project. The director of the academic committee of the laboratory is served by Academician Zhang Ze.
Three members of the key laboratory were selected by Clarivate Analytics for the “Global Highly Cited Scientists” list, and five members were selected by Elsevier for the “China Highly Cited Scholars” list. The lithium-ion battery developed by the laboratory has been applied to the latest spacecraft in China. The results of the provincial and ministerial awards are as follows:
(1) “Micro-structure control and preparation, performance control technology and application of large-area oxide film materials” won the first prize of 2013 Zhejiang Science and Technology Award.
(2) “Preparation and transmission performance of nano-composite thermoelectric materials" won the second prize of the 2014 Ministry of Education Natural Science Award
(3) “Design and preparation of high-throughput energy-saving oxide film and spectral modulation research" won the second prize of the 2017 Zhejiang Science and Technology Award
(4) “Transition metal oxide micro-nano Electrode construction and improvement of energy storage performance” won the second prize of the 2017 Ministry of Education Natural Science.
