With the approval of the Zhejiang Provincial Government, the Key Laboratory of New Information Materials of Zhejiang Province was established by the Magnetic Materials Research Laboratory of Zhejiang University School of Materials with relevant cooperative enterprises in 2009. It carries out basic research and pilot research on various advanced magnetic materials, industrial development and engineering applications. Academician Zhang Ze was appointed as the director of the Academic Committee of the Key Laboratory of New Information Materials in Zhejiang Province. Academician Shen Baogen was appointed as the deputy director of the academic committee and the professor was the director of the laboratory.
The Key Laboratory of New Information Materials in Zhejiang Province has been conducting in-depth basic research and technology in key research directions such as low-power high-performance soft magnetic composite materials, high-frequency wide-temperature low-loss soft ferrites and low-cost high-performance rare earth permanent magnets. The laboratory has obtained significant breakthroughs and research fruits and educated a lot of related talents.
In basic research, the laboratory has obtained a series of original discoveries or inventions. More than 360 papers has been published in high-level journals such as Nat. Comm.,Energy Environ. Sci.,Acta Mater.,Script. Mater.,Adv. Mater.,Adv. Funct. Mater.,Appl. Phys. Lett.,Phys. Rev. B,Sci. Rep.,Nano Energy,J. Alloy. Compd.,J. Magn. Magn. Mater.,IEEE Trans. Magn., More than 260 articles have been included in SCI and have been cited thousands of times. In terms of technological innovation, the laboratory has obtained a series of core intellectual property rights in low-power high-performance soft magnetic composite materials, high-frequency wide-temperature soft ferrites and high-performance low-cost rare earth permanent magnets. The laboratory also got 114 national invention patents and 2 US invention patents. In terms of awards, since 2003, the laboratory has won 2 second prizes for national technology inventions, 3 first prizes for science and technology in Zhejiang Province, 1 second prize for science and technology from the Ministry of Education, and 2 second prizes for scientific and technological progress in Zhejiang Province. In terms of talent cultivation, there have been 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 15 postdoctoral fellows, 25 doctors and 72 masters, and dozens of technical backbones for enterprises. What’s more, the book "Magnetic Fundamentals and Magnetic Materials" written by the laboratory has been reprinted 10 times and has become one of the most published and influential books in the field of magnetic materials in China.
In terms of results transformation and industry-university-research cooperation, the enterprises jointly established by the laboratory and the innovation team has become the leading enterprise in the industry at home and even in the world. The technical level has increased rapidly, and the industrial scale has continued to grow. Magnetic materials have become the most distinctive and advantageous industry in the field of new materials in Zhejiang Province. Zhejiang Province has also become the main magnetic material industry center in China. The key laboratory of new information materials in Zhejiang Province has become an important part of Zhejiang's science and technology innovation system, which promotes the formation and development of Zhejiang, especially the magnetic material industry cluster around Hangzhou.
