Bio:
Dr. Kwo-hsiung Young is the Chief Scientist in the Battery Materials Ovonic Division at BASF located in Rochester Hills, Michigan,USA. He graduated from National Taiwan University, China in 1982 with a BS in EE and from Princeton University, New Jersey in 1989 with a Ph.D. in EE. After graduation, he joined the technical team at Superconductor Technology Inc. headed by Nobel Laureate, Dr. Robert Schrieffer. In 1991, he joined Energy Conversion Devices Inc. where he led materials research in superconductors, photovoltaics, and metallurgy. He is one of the key inventors to increase the power of NiMH battery technology, and successfully implemented the technology in EV and HEV with support from USABC. He has 31 US Patents in NiMH battery technology, and worldwide manufacture of NiMH batteries is under licenses based on these patents. Dr. Young also serves as adjunct professor at Wayne State University, Michigan, where he supervises Ph.D. students in electrochemical materials research. In the last three years, he has published over 50 technical papers in the field of metal hydrides for electrochemical applications. His current research focuses on next-generation NiMH battery design for stationary and alternative energy applications.
